FIRST FRIDAYS

First Fridays

  • How can we trust the Bible when there are so many conflicting interpretations?

  • What does church mean when you can listen to countless sermons on your smartphone?

As a church, we want to tackle these and other difficult topics, so join us for one or all of our First Fridays.

We will gather this summer in the church lobby on Fridays in June, July, and August, from 6:30-8:00pm, for casual but crucial conversations about discipleship today.

We’ll have dessert & refreshments, and childcare will be available. Register for one Friday or all.

Topic: “Faithful Politics" w/ Dr. Vince Bacote

How can “good news people” move toward greater discernment and hope amid a climate of fear and division? Join us as we hear from Dr. Vince Bacote, professor of theology at Wheaton College, on a faithful Christian approach to politics. By considering some of our Christian beliefs, we’ll see how God’s truth can direct us toward public faithfulness.

Topic: “Examining Technology: How Our Devices are Discipling Us” w/ Elyse Peggar

Technological advancements are exciting and at the same time frightening when we realize the rate at which new tech-devices are released. How should Christians view technology? And how do Christians think biblically about not only what our devices are and how we use them, but who they are shaping us to be?

Topic: “De-churching & Deconstruction: What’s Going On and How the Church Should Respond”

The past few years have seen numerous people deconstructing their faith, leading some to leave the church, while others have emerged with a newly strengthened belief. What is deconstruction, who is deconstructing, and why? And how can the church respond with faithfulness while modeling healthy forms of the faith?
